Clay Jaque was hoping he would catch a tarpon on fly that morning. The morning was hot humid, perfect conditions for a good tarpon bite. This was his first time stalking the Silver King. I pulled into the spot in the morning and low and behold a shrimp hatch! Tarpon (of all sizes) were popping shrimp all over the surface. I stealthily poled Clay into position and his first cast was about 5 feet short. I told him to pick up and re-cast and this time he was right on the money. A few twitches with the gurgler and BOOM, he was on. I was a little surprised at the size of the fish because normally the fish are a bit smaller in that area. The amazing battle ensued and 10 minutes later, Clay was holding his prize! Amazing job, my friend! Congrats!
